Baptism

Romans 6:4 ESV
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

What is baptism

Baptism speaks primarily of a personal, public identification with Jesus Christ.
As we enter the waters of baptism, we are proclaiming the gospel message that we now belong to the family of God through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

With baptism we testify to the truth that we are now dead to the power of sin.  Being raised out of water expresses our new life in Christ, our union with Him, and our union with the all saints that have come before us who put their trust in and profess the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
